As beautiful as it is Rolf, I am surprised it didn't sell but glad it didn't and you get to keep it. Sometimes we just have to learn to keep a few things ourselves. I am sure it will become a family heirloom fought over for years and years!

I like yours better than the one in the German magazine. I'd seen theirs and passed on it. Your version is appealing though.

Linda, this was a strange project for me. I was completely taken in by this design when I first saw it. But as I had said completely lost interest once I started making it. That very rarely happens to me. That is why we need to look at designs as starting points and tweak them until they appeal to our own taste. If I were to make another I would consolidate the layers even more and rely on more aggressive shaping to give the depth.

Rolf, I'm with you. Sometimes I use a pattern as is. I'll admit, it depends on my mood and how creative I'm feeling. More often than not I will take an inspiring and already great design, and say 'I like it, but with this change it would better suit what I envision for me (or my intended customer)'. And most often I incorporate intarsia techniques because that's what I personally love. The designers give us a wonderful starting point. With the tweeks we do to personalize everything, it lets each piece be truly unique.

That is one where you tell Kevin we really don't need to know until at least 6 months after it happened. There are lots of crazy people out there....

I really don't know what to say about that--other than I think I tried to treat "that" guy for chest pains 35 years ago in a mobile home (trailer).
Glad Kevin got out with nothing more than a great story for the guys back at the water cooler.

              You're absolutely right -

Last week, a lady who had picked one of my cards at the downtown show, called and asked if she could come out and look at my bowls. She came an hour later, walked up to my latest bowl and asked the price. I told her and she whipped a check on me. About the third...

When I figured out what you were doing, I figured you would have to remove a ton of wood to get the movement to sit correctly. Really like the numbers. Any guess on weight?
