  • Ryan's First Project

My grandson, Ryan, who's visiting this week spent some time in the shop with me and made his very first segmentation project. He made a lot of small scraps from big ones and then learned to sand them into shape before he cut this dolphin. He did most of the work himself.

What a pleasure to see a kid interested in something besides computer games! He did a super job on a first project. I'm sure we're all hoping to see a second and a third!

Ryan says to thank everyone for all the nice comments. He's quite excited about them. WD, he has goggles, but took them off for the pictures. He says he looks "funny" with them on. He fussed a bit about wearing the mask for pictures, but he wasn't given a choice there since he was actually grinding wood. Thanks from me for all the nice comments too.

I haven't posted in a few months but I have been keeping up. I agree with what Mark is saying. To make everything for everyone would be very difficult. Yes I'm still using the one I built I did some upgrades to it though. I swapped out the pipes for linear motion rails and made the gantry out of aluminum. I guess if I were to upgrade now I would be looking for a full size machine that could do 4x8 sheets of plywood with an automatic tool changer but...

With all these new tool stories, I was working on and old one. About 9 years ago, I built a router table. Then, before it was finished, I had to start using it. And I have used it over the years. A couple of months ago, While I was contemplating cleaning, I looked at the machine and decided to finish...
