  • Thor Intarsia

My son did a pencil drawing of Thor which was his take of the comic book character. I thought it would be a good learning piece for my second intarsia after first doing a small unfinished bird.

    The photos show
    (1) my son's original drawing
    (2) my intarsia version
    (3) The flat cut
    (4) The almost completed project

I had a lot of fun making this intarsia and I learned a lot from it. It's not yet glued or framed, but I am on holiday away from any woodworking, so I just posted it. It is made from recycled pine shelving and is made up of over 150 pieces.

I hope you like it. Any criticism or comments are welcome.

    Mike

Nice work! It is very special to take your son's drawing and turn it into such a delightful piece. Love the detail work you did on some of the shaping.

Nice work and nice work on just the drawing alone.
It's only a mistake if someone saw you do it.

It's not about what saw you drive. It's about the skill you drive it with.

Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. Being new to intarsia work, I was very surprised that every phase of the work, from making the plan, to cutting and shaping was so enjoyable and varied enough to avoid monotony. Another advantage is that at my age it is an advantage that a lot of the work can be done while sitting.
