  • World's largest intarsia

On our way up to the cat show in Portland this weekend, I wanted to stop in Wilsonville, just outside Portland. In their library is what they believe to be the world's largest intarsia. It depicts the town circa 1910, made by inmates at the Correctional Institution as part of a vocational program. It has 5000 pieces and 57 different types of wood. It is 17 feet long and 8 feet high, weighing over 800 lbs. It was quite interesting to look at their album that shows how they made it in.

Definitely worth seeing if you're ever passing through the area.

WOW! I'm trying to imagine what they used for a backer board. And just the glue-up most have been a big big task. It is hard to imagine how much time and effort went into it.

Well all they had was time on their hands so they put it to good use. That is an amazing piece. Thanks for sharing with us Janette!

I was just being silly and thinking it would be cool to do that as a postcard. But thats a bit much. It would make a nice serving tray though.

Aawww come on, it would be a walk in the park for Bruce to come up with a pattern and only a couple of years for you to throw it together. . . Right?
