  • Watch Project Finished

This is the coolest thing that I've ever seen, made it and ended up giving it as a graduation gift. The second one I made for my brother when he graduated college. This is the third one and its all mine. Finished it in about 4 hours this afternoon. Really fun project. If you are thinking about doing this one drill the clockworks hole about 5/8" rather than 1/2" as the pattern suggests. I had to redrill it after I had finished it because the clock didn't fit down flush. Anyway just wanted to share it with you guys & gals.

I like it too!! I looked a few weeks ago to see if I could find a pattern for this. Would love to make it. Any hints where to look for the pattern would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Andy, the project design is by Denis Sutter. Not sure which issue of WOOD is was originally in but where I got it from is "30+ Great Gifts" From the editors of WOOD magazine. January 2002 issue. Hope this helps.

Pattern is still available. Here is one link and I know I've seen it somewhere else but I can't think at the moment which catalogue.

Hey Diane, I guess that you couldn't tell how big the watch is by my pics but it is only about 15" long. It can either hang on the wall or sit on desk.

Hey Mia, that is the one that I made. And it is a lot easier that it looks. Try it, you'll like it. Even if your name isn't Mikie.

Here is the description of the item:

I knew it wasn't big because I've looked at it before.

I was refering to the one that you posted the web address for. It showed the woman holding it & it was about as tall as she was. This sounds like the one that I made. It's the same one that Mia post the address for.

The description is from my link. It shows the watch next to a cell phone. If you read properly at the bottom where the lady is standing it says:

I enlarged the pattern, it's 45 inches tall and 10 inches wide. The band is 5 inches wide cut from 8/4 walnut on a bandsaw. The rest is made from curly maple. I told my wife I made it for her as desk clock, actually I will hang this on a wall. Though folded in various ways it can sit on a flat surface. In it's smallest configuration it's about 20 inches long.

I really like the design, too. The thought of a gigantic watch hanging on the wall appeals most to me, but I bet the small one for a desk gets picked up and looked at a lot if it's in an office.
