Between OSHA ,EPA ,EPD ,FED ,State & LOCAL ,Home owners assoc. Animal control ,The Humane Soc. and Zoning & and the pleasure police ,I doubt it , Regulations and more regulations ,make for a Happy society in this politically correct non-offending place we call Home ( Ain't it Great!)

The kicker is they wont let him use the coop to raise chickens for eggs and meat, but if he wants to convert it to house pigeons they are good with that.... Rats with wings!

Speaking of Decor... I need to find a scrollable pattern of a broad breasted chicken (nothing sexual mind you) Im doing a sign for a friends father's new Chicken Coop...

He lives on White Western Lake... Puns are intended! Ive been razzing him about making sure he gets a window A/C and a cable hook up so when he gets the boot from the wife he has a place to move into!

I remember one of the episodes of 'Matlock'. A fancy home in the suburbs and in the back, a Chicken Coop.

Not sure what projects would be appropriate in a chicken coop.

We raised about 12 chickens. People warned us about the smell and noise, but they were quiet (hens only) and there was no smell. We cleaned as necessary and even our neighbors enjoyed them. We would let the neighbors' grandkids find the eggs in the morning and take them home. We are thinking about doing this again.

I also found, by talking to our local police officers, that, even if it is not legal in your neighborhood, if no one complains, the cops don't care. I think raising chickens is a great idea for the eggs, meat, or kids and grandkids.

That's Good to have some understanding & common sense in enforcement ,But let one PUREST raise his little head and file a complaint and all bets are off, and every body's sorry ,but you will find yourself in big trouble ,all do to unforeseen consequences of over regulations .The politically motivations of ( reaction )in stead of (thought out response) ,is quicker and get's more votes
from the complainers , which leads us all down this garden path! Zero tolerance ,requires no thinking ,by those in power . Your guilty till proven innocent !

I *love* chickens! They actually are fun to watch and I think they make great additions to any family. I could never do the 'meat' route. I have a hard time slapping a bug and I usually end up tossing it out the front door instead. A guy down the street has a whole flock of them and I always slow up my truck to watch them in the yard. Another guy has Guinea (sp?) hens that run around, (they eat ticks and other nasty bugs).
I grew up in NY, right next to the city line and I am sure they are not legal to have. At least that was what I was led to believe my whole life growing up. Of course my parents could have just told me that so that they wouldn't have to have chickens in the backyard. Now that I think of it, almost all animals were illegal except cats and dogs. lol... (bugged my parents for a horse forever)

We had a guy raising (fighting chicken's) He had issues & divorced ,Turned the culls loose , they took up , residence at my place ,roosted in the trees over 50 of them , tore up mama's flower beds ,noisy, messy,& could fly real well . Finally ,corralled the whole flock ,with feed into my box truck ,and relocated to greener pastures . Those banty.s can be aggressive especially w/ chicks ,and are smart to the sounds of offensive deterrents .
I have maintained my agra. zoning status .and still have some two Pygmy goats ,just to keep it active ,other wise ,1 yr. w/o automatic residential status then the restriction start ! I have 8 acres in the city limits .

My mom used to tell me stories about when she was little she used to have to run out with the broom to save her brother from the banty roosters. They are no joke when they spin around and attack with those talons on their feet.
