Another turned /scrolled ornament

I have been making some of these again. The bell is from a friends maple tree that I cut a slice from and cut 4x4x6 blocks sealed the ends and let dry for a couple of years now. Free and turns beautifully.
The reindeer is from a pattern given to me by a gentleman that was cutting them on a treadle saw at the last Fox Chapel open house. The little tree is Cherry, also turned. To make the reindeer I used cherry as pine is too soft for this scale ,

You didn't really need that big new lathe for those nice tiny little bells, but even more of a trick is keeping those reindeer antlers together at that scale, not to mention Rudolf's red nose!

It's really neat when someone takes a piece off the lathe and hits the saw or sander to enhance it. Adding the scenes inside really make for a nice piece.

Great idea, I didn't picture this when you mentioned them the other day. You asked what carbide tools I used in the other thread, I use the short ones from woodcraft, can't remember the brand and it in the 20's here in Oklahoma so I ain't going to the shop and checking :-). I bought the square rougher and the round finisher, then decided I needed the diamond shape detailer and they had just came out with it with the same handles as my others. I really like them. I cut a lot of the rain deer, but I cut the larger ones , but same pattern. Last year I gave away about 50 pens made out of them . OH, I love the Bells !

I didn't "NEED" for this project, but they seem a lot easier to make when every thing runs quiet and smooth and the tool rest doesn't keep getting loose. Actually they are a perfect project for a small lathe.
