  • A few things I worked on this week

All kinds of fun stuff this week. Some name plates for the kids... a fretwork(?) dragon and a multiple colored thing with holds is a board for a game we call Stress (but it goes by a lot of other names too)

We were having company over on Saturday night... and about 7 PM Friday my wife asks me to make a 6 person stress board so everyone could play. Great... no pressures... first time my wife asked me to make anything... and I figure I had to justify all the money on saw etc... but I had no pattern and no idea how to do it. We found some pictures of boards on the internet... (plus my father in law used to make 4 person boards) so I created a pattern on some graph paper and went to town. Stained it and put one coat of shellac in time for it to dry and play on it Saturday night. =)

Lovely workmanship!! What game is the stress board for? Looks like it might be fun.

The font I used for the signs is just a stardard windows font (Jokerman) I like it because it has a fun robotic look to it... and it is one of the more difficult ones to cut with some letters so it shows off scroll saw.

The dragon pattern was from Steve Good
Scrollsaw Workshop: Dragon Plaque Scroll Saw Pattern.

Yep... Peg's and Jokers sounds familiar... my wife's family called it Stress in Wisconson but no one else seems to call it that. Fun game... you play it with decks of cards and pegs that move around the board.

I looked in my Word font selection and that isn't there. Do you know where I can download it?
Good work on the cutting, nice and smooth.
It looks like you can add more sections to the game board. Is that your intention?
Pacifism is great, as long as everyone is participating.

Looks like Jokerman comes from a few different Microsoft products

Yes... the theory was that we could play with that board with 3,4 and 6 people (normally you play with pairs but the 3 person game is everyone for themself) The is a dowel in the circles at the ends of the sections to allow you to reconfigure the number of players.

not to be critical, but it looks as though there is a hole missing on the stress board, looking at the picture, section with the blue(on the right side), on the areas where the peg holes jut up from the main line, all of the other colored sections have what looks like a "plus" sign, however that one appears to be missing the hole to the left.

otherwise, very nice work and thanks for sharing!

Lol Seamus... was just testing you. Yep... missed a hole... we found that out the first time we played with it. Wish you would have pointed that out *before* we had company over. Ah well... all things are more beloved for their imperfections.
