  • what finish

Hi. I made a couple of new things today. The heart came out better than I expected. It has not had the finish put on yet.I plan to paint the side red and then spray a lacquer clear finish. It is made from 9mm and 4mm birch ply. The box is the first ever I have made. The box part is made up of two pieces of 18mm MDF and the base is 2.5mm MDF while the lid is 6mm MDF with a 2.5mm piece under the lid that fits inside the bix. I made a hardwood heart to go on the top which is not glued on yet.

I have been giving some thought as to how I will finish the box, what readily comes to mind is a coat of primer followed by two coats of semi-gloss acrylic paint. If anyone has any other ideas I would be glad to hear them.

The perfect solution when I need a wider top on my Hegner. A magnetic sheet! I decided not to get the Pegas as the only reason was for the wider top and the top feed blade. After 19 years, my Hegner is still running like new and I couldn’t justify the expense. It was a “want” and not a “need”....

Good idea Scott. Also, my daughter has long, curly hair. She twists it up and around and sticks a pencil in to hold it. I also stick a dowel in my hair when working and my hair gets in my way and I twist it up. The one in this picture would perfect for thick hair.

I have a magnetic sheet on my EX for over 2 years and still smooth, once in awhile I sprayed it with greaseless lube and wood slide real good. Highly recommended.
