New Excalibur 21

With all the talk about Excalibur's not running right out of the box over the last week or so on this forum, I began to get nervous. Just ordered mine last Monday and was wondering if maybe I made a mistake. Seem kind of strange though since Excalibur has had such a great rep. I called Ray down at Sayco and ordered the 21 on line (he's got a great deal going for the saw, stand, and foot control at a reduced price) -- no sales tax and no shipping.

Well it came today. The stand assembled pretty easy as did the saw. I nervously turned it on and it purred like a kitten, even when I turned up the speed. No shake rattle and roll, so far. I tried cutting a few pieces with all the settings out of the box with no problems at all. Much quieter than my DeWalt (which has been in the shop for repairs for two weeks now).

It looks like it's going to be great. I thought I'd give this little report since some of you might be thinking of purchasing the saw and were also shaken by the few reports we have recently had. Included picture here of my new tenant.

I think everyone needs to remember that one bad experience does not make for boycotting a particular saw. There are MANY very satisfied users of Excalibur saws out there. Why there have been some particular problems reported is unknown. I received my saw over three years ago directly from my local supplier and then got extras from Ray. He knows his stuff based on interactions others in our club have had with him. There are several "tips" for improving the Excalibur (and other) saws which probably should be collected on another topic area. However, each should be implemented once you are satisfied that your saw is operating properly.

I have read so many good reports on the excalibur and I know people who have had them a long time and they are very happy. In the states you are very fortunate to have Ray at Seyco who fine tunes each saw before it is sent to the customer. Here in the UK there is no such service that Seyco offer, when we get an excalibur we are getting straight from the factory in Taiwan via the importer. I had an ex 21 and it lasted 3 months despite fine tuning it myself with help from Ricks site. A friend had hers 16 days. They all seem fine initially and after a while problems start to come up. I personally don't think they are worth the high price and some of the materials used are not up to much, the tables scar easily and the blade clamps are a real pain but thats just my opinion. For us here in the UK there is only one decent saw available and that is the Hegner and I am ordering mine in a couple of weeks.
