Hi,I am asking this question on behalf of my hubby and I know this may sound silly, but I am wondering if there is a computer program for Scroll Saw Alphabets, as now when he wants to do names he comes to me and I have to use my machine embroidery program then manually cut all the letters apart and rearrange them just like he wants and it takes a lot of my time, when I know there must be something out there as I have seen scrollers doing this at craft shows. Hopefully you can help me before I get upset, Just kidding as he does a lot for me, but please make this project a lot less problem. Thanks

Thanks, I like that site but my hubby wants all the letters touching. Do you know if there is a program to do names on the computer. I know I have seen people doing names at craft shows with some sort of program. Thanks again

Hi Dianna, try http://freeserifsoftware.com/. Most of the programs they offer will do that. Best thing is they are FREE.
DrawPlus or PagePlusSE would be your best bets.
Page Plus is what I used for the words in issue #23.
I did use version 9 but SE should work too you can upgrade to version 9 for under 10 bucks.Last edited by CanadianScroller; 10-16-2006, 06:33 PM.CAЯL HIRD-RUTTEЯ"proud member of the best scroll sawing forum on the net."Ryobi SC180VS scroll saw EX21

Oh Thank you so very much. I downloaded the PagePlusSe and just love it. I can do a word really easy but for the life of me I can't space the letters the way I want them. My hubby loves doing the wood art you had in issue 23 and would like to do some of his own using your technique. How do you do the spacing. I hope you don't mind me asking this, but I have tried all the helpful hints for 3 hours now and can't seem to get it. I just want to Thank you again for helping us.

Thanks, Canadian Scroller, You have answered all my questions and helped me with the lettering. It took me awhile to understand the instructions (I am a blond, need I say more, LOL) but finally it soaked in. Thank you so much , now I am a happy wife of a scroll saw worker.

Another quick way of getting lettering to scroll, depending on what you are doing, is to use MS Word in conjunction with a shape from the Draw toolbox to put either under your text forming a link between letters - see first pic. Or behind it as in the word "Stencil" below.
The letters from Word should be kerned OK, if not they can be changed with Format>Font>Character Spacing.
Black isn't the best colour to use mind you - hard to see the blade against it!

by meflickGlad you got it, got it set up and working Tony. Fortunately I have a DH who is much more technical on builds like that so I let him put it together for me. I knew he would get it built much faster and with much less frustration then I could have.
I never tried to use the LaserGRBl....-

Reply to Old Tool - Rebornby tgiro01Thanks - To make the box joints I used a 1/2" straight bit and my Incra jig. I used the little right angle sled that comes with the Incra fence, but now that I have the miter slot, I'll be getting or building a good coping sled....

by tgiro01I cleaned some space on my workbench to set this thing up and then had to clean some more space. I read about the 54X45CM size, but I guess I wasn't really thinking about how big it is. I put an 18 inch ruler in for scale in the "built" picture.
TBH - I wanted to get it together...-
