Joey, I have had a Q3 for better than 12 years and have run it for over 3000 hours of cutting without harming the motor or control box. I don't think it's your motor or control box but the on-off switch that has gone and they only cost a few dollars.
After replacing the on-off switch on my saw more than 20 times, (they only seem to last a few hundred cycles) I now use a foot pedal to start and stop the motor. To replace the on-off switch, unplug the saw, remove the three small screws on the left side of the control box that hold on the plate, and pop out the switch. Any electronic hobby shop will have a mini-switch that will fit. Bring the old switch with you so that you can get one the same size. It doesn't matter if it has two or three connections on it; only two work.
Hope this helps.

I have a Delta 40-690 and so far I like it just fine. It is very good running saw and cuts nicely. Also it is fairly quiet and vitually no vibration when sawing. It can usually be picked up a little cheaper than the DeWalt saw, and I believe them to be identical except for color and name.

The Delta 40-690 was available in some stores Reconditioned and better than new for just over $300. Delta apparently was purchased by the Black and Decker company, and new owner went thru warehouse reconditioned saws that were returned for various reasons. Some were just damaged in shipping and new parts attached. I bought one of these and it is a beauty. I swear it was never used, and table and all are unscathed. Runs like a beaut.

pmac53, where are you located? You're lucky to have a store you can go to, for reconditioned or even new for that matter. I envy you. Of coarse I don't need a saw, but, it would be nice to have stores like that in the neighborhood. I have the 788 & have had no problems with it for 3 yrs. now. I guess you can get a lemon in just about anything you buy today. I also have the Q 3 Delta & it is just my spare saw if I need it. I tried selling it, but, it costs more to ship it than it is worth. It is a fine saw too. I just had problems with the blade clamps while using spiral blades. I use them a lot & that is why I got a different saw. Joey, I hope you can get a saw soon & enjoy it.PERK

where?
I am just north of Zanesville, Ohio. The Lumber store in Keim Lumber in Charm, Ohio, the heart of Amish Country in Ohio. They have a lot and it is a big store. All kinds of tools, Exotic and Domestic woods, just about everything, I guess. I have five saws, actually. Two 14" Scrollmates, two RBI Hawks, and the new Delta 40-690. I like all of them, but one hawk and the Delta are my favorites, third in the scrollmate 14".

by RolfI periodically get asked if I am still making the kits. The answer is yes.
I get a private message on the forum to which I reply but suspect new people to the forum don't check for a response.
So please, if you have sent me a PM check for a response.-

Reply to Hegnerby RolfThe Hegner like some other saws have a sweet spot or not so sweet spot where they may vibrate. I know they need to have a solid footing.
When we were younger (2005) we used to bring our saws to our club meeting in an old barn with wooden floors. The seasoned scrollers all had Hegners. The rest...-
