  • Morning Glory

I just finished this picture today. It was designed by Mike Williams and the story said it was his first design. I think that is pretty good for a first timer.
I reduced the size so it would fit an 8 X 10 frame that I bought at WalMart.
I put a cherry finish on it and wish I'd not done that, but little late for that.
It is 1/8" BB with a black felt background.

Thanks Bob, for posting the pic. I really like it, and I agree with you, that's a fine pattern for a first one. Pretty good cutting too. And the colors not that bad.

              Love it. Looks great.

Love the hummingbird. We have "family" of them visiting our feeder this time of year. There is between 3 and 5 of them best we can figure.

I love to watch them guard the feeder and then play dive bomber. It's great, cheap entertainment. But then maybe I'm just easily amused.

We have 2 feeders and they are really fighting over them now. It won't be long and they will be gone from here.

                      Nice work Bob,

If you don't like the finish, you could always use a gel stain on top.
Or you could use a glaze mixed with some stain, or...
Give a coat of shellac first and then do the above, or...

There are many ways to fix, change, finish creatively, whatever you want to call it

The only thing you should do: try it on a piece of scrap first, rather than last. Meaning that if you don't try it on a piece of scrap first, your cut may become one

                      Enjoy yourself.

PS, When taking a picture, you should remove the glass: makes for distrating reflections sometimes

                      Respectfully,

I never thought about the glass until I went back and looked at my post. Maybe I will remember it the next time.

Thanks everybody for all the nice comments.

Thats another great tip Marcel, thanks.
I just had a fit with my last picture because of the reflection from the glass.
I had to take the picture at an angle and then did a little mor cleanup in PSP.

Excellent job, beginner or not. I think it's a stunning picture, and a nice pattern by whoever you got it from. Personal opinion is that I don't like the frame. That would look great in a segmented elipse, or a free flowing frame. I have found myself making awesome pictures in the beginning, but my frames where boring. Now I make sure to put as much work into the frame as I do the picture.
Great Job, you definitely have a nack for this, so keep it up.

Here's another thought...maybe that would look awesome as a plaque..say mounted on a chunk of light colored burl with the bark still on it ?

Without the complete schematic it is hard to know what is correct.
That said, it is a multispeed blower that obviously has a controller board. That board varies the power to the motor. By doing what you did you bypassed that. You put power across the low and high windings. If any thing connecting...

If he connected to red and black and the motor spun wouldn't that indicate the motor is grounded? Without connecting the white the circuit isn't complete and the motor should not spin.

The reason for the smoke is incorrect wiring, posible melted insulation between motor windings and motor frame.

You mentioned connecting power to the red & and black wire. Did you do anything with White wire? Per the lable on the motor the black wire is high the Red is low. White common...
