  • Ornaments plus......

Spent a few hours in the garage exercising the tools. Ended up with 30 ornaments cut (5 patterns, stacks of 6) and waiting for final sanding/finishing. I use 1/8" hardwood for my ornaments - in this batch there is ash, maple, beech, and cherry. Roundish ones are about 4 1/4", snowflakes are ~5". Note to self - don't take pictures of maple on pine plywood ....sorry.

Also found a little time to play on the lathe. Small curly maple plate, 7 1/2 wide, 3/8" tall, about 1/4" at thickest. Finished with BLO at the moment.

Great stuff Bear! Thanks for the reminder, time to get to ornament cutting, sheesh.
One of these days I'll have to break down and buy a lathe, it's the one tool I've never used.

            Nice work Barry,

            The ornaments look real good,

but I LOVE that curly maple plate!

That wood irridescence is so nice , candy for the eyes.

Someday I may have the room to put a lathe in... (Jealously thinking of MinotBob's, as well as your retirement workshop)

            Take care buddy,

Nice try Dale - are you taking the lead on it this year?

I figured I'd make them now and mail them after I move and still be early!

And the plate is my youngest's - she picked out the wood and critiqued as it spun.....

                  Thanks folks!.

No Barry, I cant take the reigns on a swap, but I would join one again. As for the plate, your youngest one has a keen eye for wood, and an even better eye for precision. She did a great job at stopping you from making that one more cut you wanted to do, and it probable would have flew apart. Dale

PS: Yes , there IS a bare spot on the tree yet from last year! LOL

We have an order for a dough board and matching pepper grinder. The walnut board I could make into a beautiful basket or two and sell for lots more than they are getting...

Jim, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, on the left you’ll find some style options that change the font size and color. I’ve been using Defalt vB5 Style, and it seems to be about the best for my iPad, but I’m still experimenting with my iMac.
