    Paul if you do detail fretwork you will love it ...I got the "bug " for it last Christmas and am having a ball.. Start out at slower speed at least until you get a little wear on your blade- I use FDM # 5 two way and have good results.Don't be afraid to back up and work into a tight corner instead of trying to turn sharp. a couple of back ups will give you ample room then and keep your turn crisp. for points work them the same -a couple of strikes into but don't turn.
    Hope this helps you some and enjoy

    Thanks Lucky788;

    I must definitely check those places out in person since I'm not that far away.

    try www.badgerhardwoods.com or www.kmhardwoods.com, both Wisconsin dealers, both carry purpleheart. For the cherry, give www.petersonscustomlumber.com a try, excellant wood, and excellant people, also Wisconsinites! As for that project, Ill look it up later on, I havent made it. dale ... SE WI

    Project question

    Paul S in WI here;

    Being fairly new to SS I have practiced on simple projects. Tried puzzles and will be doing more of those for certain. However, I would like to try my hand at detailed fretwork. The 'Light of the World' project which I obtained from Wildwood Designs, created by Dirk Boelman seems to be a very challenging project but something I think I could handle. Has anyone here done this project? Any suggestions.

    I am having a little difficulty locating the material for this project, which my local lumber yard does not carry. Purple Heart and Cherry at 25+ inchs long. I will try Sloan's for the Maple, Aspen, and Cherry if I don't locate those in my area soon.

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas on the material and the construction of this project.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Paul S in WI
