  • Starting a scrolling Club

    Thanks for the invite TONI.
Anything I can do to help you ,just ask, It is not as hard as it seems. I just made up a sign in sheet that I put out at the shows that I go to, and now most of our club goes to. I also put sign up sheets at the lumber yards that I deal with and the library in all the towns around here.
I was aske dto set my club up in a large city, but when I resarched the other clubs there I deciced not to. They are too restrictive. The perpose of a club is to have fun and help new scrollers probress along the way. This city has a large no. of wood clubs but no scroll saw clubs. When uyou go to one of thier meetings they say that you are welcome ,but if you come back ,bring your check book and we do things our way. That totally turned me of .as I am a country boy and will bend over backwards to help somone into the scrolling world or any wood working that they want to. We have folks from 16 yrs old to 85yrs at the present time. When someone joins our club and they are novices, I give them 5 hrs free training on thier eqwipment if they have some. If not I advise them on what they should have and have even gone with a couple to help them NOT make some of the same mistakes that I had.
Long story ,short, You can look into Scroll Association of the World, AT www.saw-online. com
We have members and clubs all over the world. I am now trying to get our clubs Info on the S.A.W site as we get our site free through the association.
I know you know about it ,but thought some of the other members here would like to check it out.
Well thanks for letting me ramble on and if any one would like can contact me by e-mail

Thanks for the input Woodmanplus. I am familiar (but not a member of) with the Scroll Saw Association of the World.

I have some information about starting a chapter here but am not sure if that is the right avenue to follow. At this stage, it is just an idea.

Anyone with advice on starting a club? What would you like to see in a scrollsaw club, such as lessons, guest speakers, competitions, general gatherings/meetings?
