If we've got Intarsia and segmentation...it's only fair that we've got fretwork and portraits!!! They are equally different from general scroll sawing!!!
General scroll sawing, Bob? Reminds me of the free surprise gift Wildwood designs sent me once - a portrait pattern of a US civil war general! It might have been Lee... or Grant. He was definitely American .

Actually, I'm feeling rather smug that my humble segmentation will be deemed worthy of association with aristocratic intarsians. I'd better make sure my next piece doesn't have too many mistakes. I certainly wouldn't want it to have a plethora, Neal .

The Hegner like some other saws have a sweet spot or not so sweet spot where they may vibrate. I know they need to have a solid footing.
When we were younger (2005) we used to bring our saws to our club meeting in an old barn with wooden floors. The seasoned scrollers all had Hegners. The rest...
I assume you are talking about changing the stroke length. Looking at the manual it says you can shorten it for cutting thin wood and or metal. I have never known anyone that did that. We have several Hegner owners in our club. I am not one of them.
