  • Bear Cubs

Pattern from Steve Good. I changed the base to 1/2 of a rough peeled kiln dried cedar log that was 4 inches in diameter. Bear Cubs cut from 1/2 inch BB stained to colonial oak. Finished with shellac.

Beautiful piece, it's nice the way the tree 'breaks' out of the frame.

Nicely done, love the base idea. Did you rout out or chisel out the base for the project to fit into?

I really like it. A pattern I had missed but might go back and collect and do it. I do mostly 3/4 to 5/4 hardwoods and think it might be strong enough to give it a go without the circle for support - just thinking.

I carefully hand chiseled out the notches for the cutting to a depth of about 1/8 of an inch.

Nice work, DW. I too like the log base.

Very nice. I like the log as a base too.

I hadn't seen that pattern either. I'll have to go hunt for it too.
