One of the largest selections of clock patterns is available at Wildwood Designs. They have clock patterns for all skill levels. Take a look at their selection and cut what appeals to you.

One problem with some of the patterns is that there is little instruction for assembly. If this is your first venture in that area, you might like to check out the Edgewater or some other clock by Dirk Boleman of the TheArtFactory.com. It uses 1/4 inch woods for most of it. That is one of the easiest thicknesses to get. I think the base has some 3/8 inch wood in it. It has good instructions for assembly. You can probably stackpile much of it. We prefer the look of solid woods--but we have seen beautifully made plywood clocks as well.

Good idea Scott. Also, my daughter has long, curly hair. She twists it up and around and sticks a pencil in to hold it. I also stick a dowel in my hair when working and my hair gets in my way and I twist it up. The one in this picture would perfect for thick hair.
