  • Basket C15

This is one of Alex Fox's designs. I increased the pattern by 25% and did not cut the bottom ring leaving it attached to the ring above. This made it not so fragile. I used 1/4" solid Walnut approximately 10" square. Drilled with #68 bit and cut with FD UR #1 blades. The finish is spray Polyurethane Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

Looks great! The hardest part for me with these bowls is the assembly with no glue squeeze out.
    What glue did you use?

Thanks Rolf. I used Titebond 111 with a very small brush, but I did have some squeeze out.

Nice job! I am not familiar Titebond 111, is it water soluble?

Thanks Fibber. Yes it is water soluble and stronger than Titebond 11. Also recommended for outdoor use.

I have some dental tools I bought that I use for squeeze out. I always use titebond 3.

Also more water resistant, but the dark color could pose a problem for light woods.

Beautiful. Gorilla brand wood glue dries clear. I don't know how it compares strength and waterproof wise to the titebond glues but that basket will never hold water anyway. 😁

It dries clear but does it take the finish? When I have squeeze out I some times take a piece of sandpaper and sand it off while the finish is still wet. Sometimes you don’t see the glue spot until the finish is applied.

Mineral spirits will show most glue spots. I often use it for bowls, and mark any that appear with a white pencil so I can locate them later and sand them away.

Thanks for all the great comments. If I had time, I should glue one ring at a time and then remove the glue out, but then too much in a hurry.

Turned out really nicely! I too get excited and in a hurry sometimes. Can't blame you one bit!

Thanks Linda. Now just glue and set one ring at a time.

Sometimes I will glue the bowl in 2 ring sections, clean them up when dry then glue the rings together. I also put a glue dot as small as possible. Sometimes I dot the glue with a toothpick. Tite bond 3 is very strong it’s mostly all I use.
