  • Making of gift box

This is my first gift box
    Birch plywood 4mm and 6mm
I know that a box made from solid wood (not plywood) might look better, but I wanted to show that using simple and cheap materials and without professional tools (I used the needle file and sandpaper) you can make beautiful projects.

Alex thanks for the reminder. Great lesson about making do with the material at hand.

Very nice, Alex. The ribbon reminds me of the ribbon candy of old.

Hmmm, Bruce has some nice size scraps from the Baltic Birch maple that he’s using for our kitchen cabinets. Now I know what I can do with them. I have one question. It looks like you were finishing everything before you glue it together. What glue are you using to hold it together or did I miss something since I skipped ahead in the video?

It is a universal glue for wood, rubber, leather. Called "88" I used gloss varnish two times: each part separately and second time after glued

I’ve never heard of 88. Where did you get it?

Glue 88 is a contact adhesive for rubber, created during the Soviet era. You can use another contact adhesive available to you, for example Scotch-Weld 1300L 3M ™

That is one where you tell Kevin we really don't need to know until at least 6 months after it happened. There are lots of crazy people out there....

I really don't know what to say about that--other than I think I tried to treat "that" guy for chest pains 35 years ago in a mobile home (trailer).
Glad Kevin got out with nothing more than a great story for the guys back at the water cooler.

                      You're absolutely right -

Last week, a lady who had picked one of my cards at the downtown show, called and asked if she could come out and look at my bowls. She came an hour later, walked up to my latest bowl and asked the price. I told her and she whipped a check on me. About the third...

When I figured out what you were doing, I figured you would have to remove a ton of wood to get the movement to sit correctly. Really like the numbers. Any guess on weight?
