  • Cutting Segmented Bowls

Can anyone suggest a quick and easy method for calculating the angle a segmented bowl's rings should be cut at? I know it varies based on the thickness of the wood and the thickness of the rings but that's as far as I can get. The last time I studied math LBJ was President.

    Thanks

Dusty there is David's website and he has a quick and accurate calculator .. you just plug in the thickness of the wood and the thickness of the ring and click on the button and it gives you the angle.
Here is the link to it.

          Jean-Jacques,
Your English is fine and your link is correct... even though Dusty Hawk used "segmented bowls" in the title, the question is actually asking about the "bowl from a board" method used for scroll sawn bowls... and that is why the link to AngleCalc met his needs.

Yes, Jean-Jacques, you answered the question that was asked... so nothing to be sorry about. (I was just explaining why the AngleCalc! link was what Dusty Hawk was looking for... he used the term 'segmented bowl' but that is inaccurate. As you know, wood turners make segmented bowls... )

I like the term "stacked ring bowls" since it differentiates it from segmented bowls. Keeps it simple!
