  • some more pens

A friend at church gave me some mesquite wood to work with. It is a diagonal cut slab from a very large tree. The wood is really nice but hard to work with with the grain running odd like this. It is 2" thick so way too thick for the scroll saw.
My good neighbor Pete has a band saw that we use to cut pen blanks on and that did a real good job cutting 7/8" thick pieces for making pens.
I had to be real careful not to split the wood when drilling the center hole and trimming the excess wood before turning on the lathe.
