  • Cherry and Walnut Bandsaw Box

    Made another bandsaw box.

Like was stated before around here, these things are habit forming. This is another "peanut" box, same pattern as I posted before, just a little taller. Size is 7.5" by 4.25" by 4" deep.

Wood is cherry, walnut and a little bit of oak. Finish in tung oil.

Last two pictures: Since I hated to throw away the drawer interior, I found a use for it as well. Used my scroll saw for most of that project.

PS, I use 100% tung oil, does anybody have any hints on getting a semi-gloss finish on it? The mat finish looks good, just would like a little more shine without using some additional oil product.

Love the final product. By using the contrasting woods and the flowing curves the final product is just beautiful. And I like the soft look of the finish. Personally, I feel that too much gloss detracts from the beauty of the wood.

I agree glossy finishes detract on some items. The tung oil feels soft as well, although it seems to be quite hard.

Have you tried paste wax and buffing it? Boxes look great.

With Tung Oil finishes the more coats the shinier it tends to be. The first couple of coats seal the wood grain and from there it builds up. I am not suggesting thick coats but rather light coats and buff between coats... it will take a bit of time to do but you can get some amazing finishes with Tung Oil if you have the patience to use it.
