  • First Box

Made this domed lid box by Sue Mey from issue 46 spring 2012 SWC mag.
Top is made out of hard maple but not sure what the bottom wood is. I got a lot of wood from a person's shop who passed away. Diped in BLO and spray laquer.

Want to try Carole Rothman's apple tart box in the same mag next. This is so much fun!

Sweeeeeet project, super sweeeeet cutting, and for your first box, I'd say you are a natural.
Looking forward to more project pictures from you. Thanks for posting your box.

Very nice Trackman....is the lid of the box flat or do I see a curve to it, from middle to the edges?

Nice. I always wonder how the designers draw/create those fancy patterns (the lid). It would be fun to design my own designs. I'd have to use a drawing tool, no way freehand!

Thank all of you for the nice comments! Yes Hawaiilad the top is rounded from the edge to about half way to the center. The pattern said to cut the frets out an than glue another piece onto it that was not cut. Drawed a pencil line around the out side and sanded down to the line.
Comments from all of you that do such great work means a lot to me.

What Carole said. The lips are 1 1/2”, holds the board to the counter and keeps the flour from going off the back. After gluing them to the board, he drilled stainless screws through the lip into the board and made plugs to fill the holes. The board is 3/4” thick. Since he only has 4 large Bessy...

I remember Russel well. I think he went back to the days of Free4all.

FYI: I just completed an index of the Charity Ornament book from SSV and Birchbank designed quite a few ornaments.

Denny, you are correct, his name is Russell. While he may not have been here in years, he pops in at the Village forum from time to time. I just checked and he hasn’t been there since July. I would suggest that you send him a PM perhaps through the Village and see if you get a response.

I think his name is Russel. I checked and he was last on the forum in 2014. I had a request for one of his patterns. Fortunately I still had a copy. Anyone heard from him?
