I have the same thing. just lift the black lever, then turn the knob to loosen the tension to replace the blade. flip the lever back down and turn the knob to tighten it back up.

    Craftsman 16 Inch Var speed

Bought a used but in good condition Craftsman 16 inch scroll saw. No info with it and was wondering what the large red knob on the end of the frame is used for. It has a black tightening knob on top. Red knob is marked "tension" and "release". Any help appreciated. Thanks, K-hornet

Good idea Scott. Also, my daughter has long, curly hair. She twists it up and around and sticks a pencil in to hold it. I also stick a dowel in my hair when working and my hair gets in my way and I twist it up. The one in this picture would perfect for thick hair.
