Pattern-making Software

While I am still relatively new to scrolling I have some ideas that I'd like to turn into scroll works. Trouble is I don't know of any software available to convert a drawing into a pattern...so I thought I'd ask you all.
What software are you using to design your own patterns?

If you're willing to spend money on a program, you might be interested in Coyote stencil.
It does auto-tracing instead of sketches.

I use a program that is a free download called Inkscape. There is a very good tutorial on its use in the Stickies in the Intarsia, Segmentation and Inlay forum on this site.

Also there is Corel Draw. I believe there is a Student & Teachers edition on Amazon. Steve Good of scollsawworkshop.blogsplot.com has some tutorial videos on youtube.com on how to use the program. Tomake patterns with Corel Draw b

Yes, Corel Draw is a very good program for this. But, it can be difficult to learn how to use it. Steve Good's videos really help you to use it. He does step by stop videos using the actual screen in the video following his every mouse move. But is does cost a bit. If you are careful in what you buy, you can get a lot better deal on Ebay. But, you have to read the information carefully, to make sure you are getting what you want.

i am looking for a free program that i can use to design scroll saw patterns. i have never done this before and im not good at drawing. my husband wants me to learn how to do this so i can make patterns for him. our own patterns to make more projects or to sell the patterns. can anyone help me with this?

I use Gimp and Inkscape. Both are free and can be downloaded. Little bit of learning curve but then it all clicks together. I have both programs on my computers and also have portable version of each on flash drives that I carry with me.

Also could try Gimp 2 and Paint Net . I find they real great.
Paint net is little easier to use and Gimp 2 you can do a lot more .
They are free downloads. I hope that helps.
