I used 3/4 inch basewood for my lighthouse project. It cut easy. It shaped and sanded to a nice smooth surface. It also took white stain and finish.

I use it for white in intarsia. Works great - smells like crayons when sanding

I cut a Wolfe in a Basswood round I purchased at the local Hobby Lobby store. It cut very nicely. I am now cutting another project out of a larger basswood round, and so far, so good. I like the wood quite well. My wolfe pic is in my gallery, if interested in seeing it.

I am currently using basswood in my intarsia projects now. Easy to cut and contour with.

Hi EJM3,
Welcome to the greatest place for scrollers....
Luan is basically crap wood. It's used for floor underlayment, and basically gives a good leveling for hardwood or laminate flooring. It's not so good for scroll work...Too brittle...
Basswood is great...It can be used for all sorts of things, from carving to, you name it.
I use it for a nice tan color in my inlay work, as well as carving...
Hope this helps......

That's nice to know because I have been trying to use luan. I am 99 percent sure I have the wrong blade.

I've used basswood for compound cuts as well as intarsia projects. Cuts very easy.
