Dremel Scollsaw Station, Model 1800

Stopped by my local Home Depot today and saw this on sale as a display model for $200.00!!
Any advice(pros/cons) on this unit or should I continue with my old Craftsman Scollsaw(pinned end plades) until I saved up for the DeWalt?

Your timing couldn't be better, I just asked about this one vs. the SS350 with stand for 200 new.

I started with the Dremel and within 2 year I out grew it. I now have the Dewalt. Don't get me wrong. The Dremel works just fine but I "try" to scroll every chance I get and the Dewalt is easier to feed the blades and the larger table comes in handy for my larger projects. If you are not sure you will keep at it (scrolling) or will only use it a couple times a year, stick with the Dremel. I bolted my Dremel to a bench and vibration has been no problem....BTW I think Lowes has a better price on the Dremel then HD.

My local Lowe's doesn't have the 1800 Scrollstation. They have the 1680. I got mine for 111.00, but that was a sale.

My local Home Depot ONLY has a Ryobi 16" and then the Dremel Scrollstation 1800. Last night I saw the 1800; it was on sale for 239.00, marked down from 273.00.

Hi Ann, as of last week when I checked, HD only had those two..today I looked and they also have the SS350 with Leg Stand for 199.99. Not sure if they got it in local yet though but I swear I didn't see it on the website last week either.

My local Lowe's has the SS350 too, but it was out of my budget at the time for just beginning and also will probably be moving internationally in September and can't take a heave SS with me!

Upgrading saws is a very personal decision.
I used a 16" VS Delta for many years. It was a very serviceable saw.

My brother sent me some money last year and I went saw shopping.
There is nothing wrong with saving up for a Dewalt, or a hegner or an RBI or an eclipse, well you get the picture.

We can't all afford the top of the line saws, some of us can't justify it either.
I was given a Ryobi 16" saw a few years ago. It was a real shaker. I swore I would never get a Ryobi.

Well I went to Home Depot last year and I came across the Ryobi 18" VS
They had several other models too in varying price ranges.
Each one had pros and cons. Most were 16" throats. The reason I wanted an upgrade was the throat depth.

Well I think Ryobi must have been listening to scrollers. The controls are all up front. Tool less blade changing and an illuminated directional blower are a plus. The Teflon coated table is easy to maintain and it has two detents in the table to rest your wrists on.

So although there are better saws out there than the one I bought I chose the one that was best suited to my needs.

If you are satisfied with the capabilities of your saw, other than the pinned blades, then it may be good to save for the Dewalt.
If you are getting frustrated with the Craftsman, and may give up scrolling if you don't have an alternative then step somewhere between the two saws.
If you can wait, the do so. The Dewalt is a great saw.


PS I see that Craftsman in the US is now carrying the 18" Ryobi under there name. Canadian Tire is carrying the 16" Ryobi under its name.
