Money sign clock/bank

Well, try this. Using the dollar sign someone provided above, cut 3 layers of 1/4th inch thick wood stacked. Make the dollar sign so the 'strokes are at least an inch and 1/2 wide. Then, unstack the three layers. Using the center layer,cut it apart, ending up with 5 pieces.(Im trying hard to explain this, bear with me). The first piece being the side of the 'S', and 3/16 to 1/4th inch of the stroke.The second piece, from the previous cut, to 3/16 to 1/4th inch brfore the opposite edge of that stroke.The third piece, from that cut, to 3/16 to 1/4 into the next stroke. The next cut all but 3/16 to 1/4th inch all from the stroke. The last piece should be the other end of the 'S' with an edge of stroke. Now, If your still following me...glue these pieces all back together like you stack sawed them, except for the two pieces that you cut out from the strokes. You now should have a dollar sign with slots through the strokes that money will fall through, and that can be mounted on a box or whatever you want to use as a money holder.
I just thought of this, but a $ with one 'stroke' would be simpler, and would look more balanced than with 2 strokes, and that would be easier yet to do.
His ideas are great, and figuring them out is all the fun of it, enjoy that precious time together. I do a lot of behind the scenes figuring out projects from my 4h kids' wild imaginations,and its very enjoyable watching these types of projects become priceless items! Dale

Thanks for all the ideas. We will work on the design and let you all know what we come up with. He keeps saying he wants the money to go down the two strokes of the money sign and fall in the bank. He sure has great ideas but then I have to figure out how to do them!!!!! Will keep you posted as to what we come up with.

I would suggest using Steve's cash sign cut it like fretwork and build a box around it with a slot in the top and a removeable base make sense.If you make it 5 by 7
you can put a 2" clock insert to the right or left of the cash sign

Here's the idea. I'll let you or your son draw it. I'd suggest using 1/8" plexiglass to create a 'box' that the money would fall into. The $, Yen and Pound sign would be scroll in wood and mounted in both front and back. Does that make sense?

On second thought, I would scroll one set of signs using 1/2" wood and mount them in the center. Then the coins would slowly engulf the symbols as you save.

Here is the money sign. As Larry said you can always hollow the center out or make your center a differant shape and attach the sign. Hope this helps. Steve

Sorry i don't know of any patterns either but Larry's idea sounds good to me, anyway welcome to the forum and some-one else may have some thoughts on this so keep looking in.

I just did a google search for "dollar sign/scroll saw" and all I got was cross eyed. LOL Maybe some one else can direct you to a Scroll saw pattern site that has one. Just an idea , but how about if you find a pattern , enlarge it to whatever size the bank will be, then... stack cut a bunch of them..enough to get the thickness of the bank. Then cut out the centers of most of the stack, saving maybe two thickness each for the front and back of the back. then restack all of them with the hollow ones inside, and glue the stack together. LOL Theres probably an easier way, but thanks for making me flex my brain... Larry

Hi, I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone could help me find a bank/clock in the shape of a money sign or has a money sign within it. My 12 year old son wants to make one for shop this semester and I can't seem to find one. Thanks.
