Thanks ubgoofy2003, already picked those up. I went with some precision blades (Olsen) and a foot pedal that the guys at the store recommended. I know most people here recommend buying blades from Mike's, I just haven't looked into buying them online yet.
Sounds like placing the foot switch in a plastic bag would be the best thing?

Welcome Gord Lacey, I hope you get the time soon, to unload that 788. You will love scrolling. I would suggest two things, that I think are a must. Quality Blades & a foot switch for the saw. I say that because, when I got mine & used it for a bit, it wanted to stop running, now & then. After getting the foot switch, I wouldn't go back. Be sure to tape something over your on-off switch, as it will collect dust & cause problems. Congrat's on the new saw & New Baby. Enjoy !

welcome to the site! My first suggestion is to get it out of the box! Set up the stand and mount the saw to it. Familiarize yourself with the controls. Mount a blade, cut a piece of wood, Then come back and ask all the questions you have! This is the first step in a new a wonderful hobby!

New In Box
I'm so new to scrolling that I haven't unpacked my saw yet
I'm a computer guy, and I was looking for a hobby that didn't somehow involve a glowing screen (computer, iPad/iPhone, TV...). I'm also a new dad (December 25), and thought I could combine a new hobby with needing toys for my son, so here I am.
Thanks to recommendations on here, and some other sites, I decided to pick up the D788, and managed to snag a decent deal thanks to a Boxing Day sale at Canadian Woodworker. I had considered the 21" Excalibur, but decided that was more than I needed at this time, and the price of the D788 was excellent ($480 CAN, including the stand, and light), so I couldn't pass it up.
I expect to pick up a used drill press and belt sander soon, as I've been told those are two very handy things to have.Tags: None

Reply to Collapsible wood basketsThank you Karl, I to have seen these baskets at goodwill. I guess the reason they are so cheep is because they are easy to make. To cut your collapsible basket you just tilt your saw table to the left 4 to 5 degrees (for the basket only). For those of you that would like to find patterns check out this...Today, 04:04 PM

Reply to Collapsible wood basketsby KarlBNice work Eugene.
You know the sad part about our scroll saw work is where it ends up. I was just a Goodwill and saw a collapsible basket there with a price of only a few dollars.

I bought 11 patterns of collapsible wood baskets from the Cherry Tree back about 1995. They are not copies, they are origionals and some are large. I do not know the laws well enough to know if I can share copies of these plans with members of this grpup or not. What I like about these baskets is that...Today, 12:34 AM
