  • Santa was good to me!

    Hi, folks,
Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself.
I'm Tom and I'm brand-new to scrolling. I just got a DeWalt DW788 for Xmas. I've wanted to try scrolling for a while now and all the hinting finally paid off.
I also got a copy of Scroll Saw Workbook. I'm hoping to start the first "skill building" projects from that book tonight.
Any advice for a complete novice would be appreciated.
    Tom

Welcome to the forum. All the advice you will need is either already located on this forum or in the book you already mentioned. Just read, read, read, and then practice, practice, practice, Oh yes did I mention practice?

Welcome A Board!! You will be hard pressed to find a friendlier or more knowledgeable group on the net re: woodworking. Share your knowledge and do not hesitate to ask questions. The only dumb question is the one that remains unasked.

You may find the stickies at the top of this forum to be very helpful. Use the Link below.

Be sure and share pics of your projects. We thrive on pictures. You will find we are not a judgmental group.

Whatever reason brought you to our forum we are pleased you found us.

Take some time to read the bylaws of the forum. We do not allow open/direct selling on the forum.

I couldn't resist (too long since any new toys) and ordered a blacklight flashlight from Amazon--same price as Harbor Freight. Should be here Tuesday--can't wait to see all the glue spots I've missed.

If you google "Moradillo" you'll get more information than you'll ever need. It looks like it will work up beautifully.

The first picture is Wenge, pronounced WHEN-ghay or WHEN-Gii. It is a very hard wood. It’s splintery and very hard to cut. When finished, it is almost black. I use it when I need a black wood for Intarsia. I do not know anything about the other wood.

I have a new neighbor who did a lot of woodworking in the past but had to give it up because of allergies. He sold his shop equipment and wood stockpile when he moved here, however he kept a few pieces of fancy wood and showed them to me. The first one (First Photo) he had no idea what it was. It is...
