I also own an Excalibur 16 and have found that if you level your top arm with the table using the tension knob it is pretty dead-on. I got this advise from Ray Seymore at Seyco. Enjoy your new saw and send some samples of your work for us to view.

You will find once you have the tension knob at the back set you will not need to adjust it for quite some time. Go ahead and get the blade to move up and down without much forward to back movement which you can see from the side or by placing a block of wood behind the blade and then watching the blade from the side.
Then just leave the rear tension knob alone...

    Hello from a Newbie!

    Hi.
I am fairly new to scrolling. I did some work years ago on a Sears Craftsman. I have just upgraded to an Ex-16. I'm currently starting to make some boxes using the scroll saw. Having some tension issues (I should not have adjusted the knob at the back), and I will be ordering some better quality blades.
I'm looking forward to getting a real start after the holidays!
Thanks for all the support and information that I have already viewed.
