Hello everyone, I joined a little while ago. I am retired Air Force (1985) and will retire again on 1 Feb of 2012 from my present job on Vandenberg AFB. I have dabbled in scrolling a little up to now, but I needed to fined a hobby to keep me off the streets and my wife happy after retirement. So, I cranked up the old scroll saw and the more I did, the more I liked it. And, as an added bonus, I found out we have a huge cabinet shop in my town and they gave me permission to dumpster dive in their scrap bins whenever I want. I have found Oak, Popular and laminated plywood in thicknesses from 1/8 up to 1 inch in different lengths and widths. Sometimes I come home with a trunk full. Made 11 desk pen sets for Christmas gifts just from scraps. I bought myself a Ryobi 16inch saw and have it set up in a corner of our garage and am having a ball. It's relaxing and fun, I can't wait until I can do it full time. Thanks for listening and have a great day. Flyingduck.

Hey Flyingduck, Welcome to the forum! Do you live in Lompoc or Santa Maria? I'm down in Moorpark in Ventura Co. I also teach scroll saw at the Woodcraft store in Ventura.

.Welcome, I too "graduated from the airforce and V A F B " back in 65...shoulda stayed in, loved my work.(motor pool mechanic , 47151 )...lotta great guys and memories....returned to Indiana after i got out....stayed with the automotive field approx. 43 years .took up woodworking as a relaxation. like to hear more about VAFB..........
