  • Hi All!

I'm totally new to this but I've always had a fascination for saws. My hubby and I were looking for a new hobby and it evolved from model ships to making fretwork and clocks music boxes bird feeders and boxes. I'm sure we will try lots of things lol. I'm trying to make a decision on which saw to buy. I posted under beginners stuff but it hasn't shown up on there yet. hope it does soon cuz I'm anxious to get started lol.

We are from Northeastern MI and we are 60 and 68 yrs old so we have plenty of spare time to learn. E1 is so friendly here!

Welcome Karen & Gary. Hope you find all that you need here on the forum. It's a fun hobby & I'm sure you will learn a great deal about scrolling here. I would suggest reading as much as you can here on the forum & books too. The Scrollsaw woodworking & Crafts magazine is very helpful too. Like I said, read all that you can & learn. Sounds like you already have a particular area to scroll in. Don't be afraid to spend all that you can on a saw, because it will make a difference on how much you like scrolling. Be sure to use quality blades too. Mikesworkshop.com has the Flying Dutchman blades. He can help you with them too. Good luck & enjoy.

Welcome. Just went through picking scroll saw myself so I know the struggle you're facing. Everyone seems to be happy with what they have and can give good reasons. If you can put hands on, that will help. Best of luch in your search and loots of good folk here to help.

          Hello Karen and Gary
Picking a saw that meets your needs is like getting a pair of shoes that fit. You won't regret the time spent to get the right one. If you want to do any amount of fretwork, we feel that a top-threading saw is imperative. What type of clocks are you interested in making? We have made some larger ones, and will help if you have a question.
          Welcome and good luck
