  • Happy to be a "Newbie"

I am a rank beginner and I'm sure will continue to benefit from this forum and membership. After following the forum for some time and trying to decide which scroll saw to buy, this morning I made the plunge and purchased a new Dewalt 788 kit. I have also ordered a couple of books by John Nelson and Patrick Spielman.
Some of the pic's. of you experienced sawyers has inspired me to want to take this up as a hobby.
I realize I have a long way to go, but the journey should be a lot of fun.
Thanks for being patient with my ramblings.
    Dale M.

          Welcome Dale

We've always got room for one more pest . And it's amazing how many 'beginners' questions lead us into some really informative conversations.

Ask away - no matter how trivial the question might seem to be, you can bet your bottom dollar that you won't be the only one here who's been stumped by the same point at some time or other.

Welcome aboard Dale. You are going to love this big happy family. I probably read 100 threads before I even bought my scroll saw. I came to the conclusion that with all the support out there, I couldn't go wrong. There is nothing worse than attempting something new and not having anyone to ask for advice. Here, you will get it whether you want it or not.

Don't be shy about posting samples of your work right away. It's awesome the encouragement you get from some of the members.

Have fun and keep in touch.

                    Much Thanx

You have all made me feel so welcome and comfortable and to be sure, I will have need for advice and answers to questions.
Here's a couple already: What do you recommend for a foot switch for the dw788? And where can I find the lift assist?
Am I supposed to ask these questions at a different place or thread?
                    Thanks, Dale

                      Hey Dale,

You might do better posting questions in the "Beginners Scroll Saw" section. I bought my footswitch from www.seyco.com. It's universal and I love it. It's some where around $25. You just have to click on their scroll saw link to find it. I didn't do much shopping around so you may find a better deal elsewhere. I have no idea what a lift assist is.

try www.jimdandy.com for the lift attachment. I love it, although mine is wearing out for some reason, the slot is wearing, but it still works. As for a foot switch, dont care for them, but I think the seyco link posted will have them. The other Dale

I was afraid maybe I shouldn't be asking the questions here. Thanks for the instruction and the answers. Talk to you all next on the scroll saw beginners place
