  • Sculptured Box, self introduction

    Hi

I have just discovered and joined this Forum and therefore wish to introduce myself. I make, as a full time hobby, bandsawn boxes.

I have recently added a "Diamond Heavy Duty Fretsaw" to my tool kit. This machine, manufactured by Mr. J D Woodward, of Leicestershire, England is amazing - it's depth of cut is more than 2", I've cut blocks up to 5" in depth with this fabulous machine!

Within a week or so I hope to be able to publish a number of images of sculptured boxes I've made using this machine in combination with my bandsaw, on this Forum.

    Kind Regards
Tony Ward aka - Sculptured Box

Hi Tony - it's nice to have you with us .

I've just taken a peek at your website and must say how impressed I am. Your stuff is superb! Would it be possible for you to take us through the production of one of your boxes, possibly illustrating it with photographs?

Yes, those Diamond saws are impressive, aren't they? I've got one which Mr Woodward re-conditioned for me last year and they're true workhorses. I recently had to cut a sign which was more than 3' wide; the ability to rotate the blade through 360 degrees really came into its own.

Well, you've piqued my interest. Can either of you show us a picture of the "Diamond Heavy Duty Fretsaw" or point us to a website? Sounds like quite an extraordinary tool.

      Thanks,
      Dan

        OOOO diamond saws....I am envious.
Gill will post the link I am sure. I don't have it right now.

If you want to see more about it check out Scroll Saw Bench Guide by Zachary Taylor.

I really did want to get one at one time but it is just outside my price range, by one continent, shipping and handling and money exchange.

            Very cool saw

            Gill,
Thanks for the link. What an interesting saw! It has lots of features I wish I had available, especially being able to mount a wide variety of blades and being able to mount them in any direction. Very creative!

Too bad it's not marketed here in the U.S. of A.

I have made a few bandsawn boxes. There is a great book available "Building Beautiful Boxes With Your Band Saw " By Lois Keener Ventura Amazon link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/155...97701?n=283155

I even did make a few from scratch using my own ideas. They are a fun break from scrolling, and everybody loves them! Nice site Tony, and welcome aboard! Dale

Welcome aboard Dan. Those boxes of yours are just beautiful! As for having a Diamond.... you lucky thing... I have two friends with one and just can't convince either that a Diamond would look better in my shed than their's... I wonder why?
                  Cheers. Teresa .

Paul Woodward, the son of Doug Woodward, has just set up a forum for Diamond fretsaws users here. He's told me that any scrollers are welcome, not just those with Diamonds.

Nice to have you with us, and an honour to have your dad visit too.

He is a brilliant engineer. I am sure there will be no shortage of questions!

                            Thanks

Good to chat with all you Scrollsawers, suppose I should use the correct word...(I don't think I would get away with Fretsaw here eh?)really interesting to hear all of your views on all sorts of things. The enthusiasm is great. Dad is very interested and will join us as soon as he can find a minute to spare from posting and packing all over the world and of course stop himself from compulsively having hand finish every saw!
Thanks for you kind observations, yes he is a perfectionist! (He will kill me when he reads this!) I only wish I were as good at editing a forum ...see latest whoopsie on web page!
                            LOL

Even though people who fret can scroll and those who scroll can fret I never could understand the difference between the terms.

Greetings from central Indiana. Most of the good stuff I know about scrolling, I learned here. The rest was from fixing mistakes or doing stuff again because I didn't pay attention to what I read here.
So, ask your questions and post your photos.
