Congratulations to our own Rob Caplan aka Arcy for the wonderful Spaceship Puzzle and Man in the Moon Face Puzzle article in this issue. That spaceship puzzle is outstanding!! Honorable Mention in the Best Project design contest is great!

Just picked up my Fall copy & it has some great projects in it. I will probably make the Oriole feeder & the Dragon Design Challenge looks inviting. It was really a shock to me when I found that crazy Fox. I wasn't really looking for it. Good job hiding it. Now to work. Take Care

I just got my copy in the mail and I've been studying the piano music box. If I can figure out where to get the little hings I'm going to try to make one.

AH the hinges, when I did the test cut I happened to have a bunch of these piano hinges that I picked up at a yard sale. You can use any small hinges that will fit, like a pair of 3/4 long instead of the piano hinge. Personaly I like the look of the piano hinge. I found these sources.

You can do a Google search but the ones I used are just like the nelson hobby but they were already cut to size.

For anyone making the Piano make sure your saw table is square to the blade!! Do some test cuts on scrap before cutting the body, it will save you lots of sanding time in the end.

Got my copy yesterday too. Congrats to our members Rob (Arcy), and Kim (lkbraa) on your projects getting published. Rolf you did a sweeeeet job cutting the music box piano, thanks for the hinge link.
.......and thanks Fox Chapel Publishing folks for another fine magazine. I would also like to mention it sure was sweeeeet to go to my SSWC CD collection to download a project from issue # 8 yesterday. No folding of paper for the pattern to get it into my scanner.........just a few clicks, print and voila.....ah the marvels of digital. A huge thanks to Fox Chapel for getting those made. thank you 1.gif

Boredom has probably lead to many a great idea, invention, etc. throughout life. I too like this concept of mixer pieces storage.

There are a lot of good points brought up here. Some may be easy to correct, others not so much. As far as Fox Chapel replying to this thread, I am trying to imagine a response that would not have made at least some people upset.

As far as the pattern size in the books, I believe the physical...

I often resize just to fit the size of the wood I have on hand. I agree this is a no win situation because of the various software, hardware differences plus the skill level of us, the end users. Even providing the patterns in a digitized format will no fix this because of the reasons I already mentioned....

John your original post is a valid question. It is a simple thing to put in the original scale assuming that it was on the original drawing. As a minimum the size of the material required can be stated, although that has been a confusion for folks that have built the clock projects. I field a lot of...

Maybe nothing has changed ? But is there anything that can be done to make it easier. The very large projects are difficult to copy over several pages and put together properly. I believe in making improvements and not preserving the status quo.

I enjoy the challenge of cutting a project...
