Re: Anybody use the Rich Notto knives?

I have been chip carving for about 5 years and have always used a Rich Notto knife. I started with his Merchon M-l which has a small blade and now have his regular Merchon. The blades are flat, and only require honing as you carve. I think he really has good quality knives and he is a nice guy to talk to also. Very helpful with carving or sharpening questions. I have not used his curved knives as they don't seem to be the type for the kind of carving I do.

I find that the curved or skewed edge does cut better, especially in hard woods. However, the curved blades aren't worth a hoot to make a stop cut. I have only 1 true skew blade and just don't care for it much. Don't really know why.

Anybody use the Rich Notto knives?

Captain brought up a pointthat has me scratching my head. I was about to venture out of my comfort zone, and get one because they look pretty high quality, but they dont have that flat cutting edge. Is the the knife going to slip more? Or will it help slice better because of the skew? I have been using the same kind of knife since I started.

About 26 years ago or a little more I made this Ladys Work Basket which I still have and use every day. I use it as a medicine box and I keep it on my kitchen counter. It is still in excellent condition and is made from close to 40 pieces of wood. The plans I got from "Cherry Tree" https:...

Yesterday was amazing to see someone ring the bell after beating cancer. When we left we walked to our cars and had our arms around each others shoulders. I told her this was the best party I have ever been to. I found this message on my phone this morning “I am such a blessed woman. I was so excited....
