Re: Whittling Knives
I carry a warren carving travel set with me. It's about the size of a paper back book has 4 gouges, a v-tool, and 4 blades. all in a hard case.
As for pocket knives i use mine as tools but i do have a couple of Case knives but their not good for carving, too big.
macktruckHoney, Where are the band-aids, again?

Re: Whittling Knives
I use an old Imperial Stockman (carbon steel) and a newer Imperial Stockman (stainless steel). I also have a new Bear 5 blade that works great but is a bit pricey to carry in my pocket with my change, keys, etc.
I have a large collection of pocketknives and have used most of them at one time or another for whittling. Barlows, Bokers, Case, Schrade, Camillus, you name it I've probably got it.
I prefer a three blade medium Stockman style knife for in the field carving and whittling. Schrade/Uncle Henry/Old Timer/Imperial being my favorite brand.

Re: Whittling Knives
I have used many pocket knives over the years, and found as long as you keep it sharp by not using it for cutting 'other things' they all worked pretty good. I recently bought a Kershaw 4380 and had Rick modify it a little and really like it. It has locking blades which add to to safety. Good choice if you have an extra fifty bucks you need to part with.

Re: Whittling Knives
Thanks ALA. Since I am not in Scouts anymore,, I am not around those Cats. However, I am going to Wichita tomorrow to get some bark for the little bride, well she is going to pick it out and will stop at the Scouts store when there.
Safety first, then enjoy carving! Ken Caney, Ks

by bstarkGreetings all, again. I have been away for too to remember, though I have always popped in from now and then. I started, and almost finished, my scrollsaw work in a tiny space on one side of a garage. I finally have a bigger space, a completely finished shop! I know a bigger space will not make me a...
