  • arborvitae wood

I have a lot of dried arborvitae wood that I plan to mill up into boards. I also have plans for small toy rubber band boats that have some painted parts. I know it is highly resistant to water rot damage, but...Does anyone know if arborvitae wood can be painted with acrylic craft paint? I can seal coat it with shellac if needed. I know...I should try it on a scrap piece...but pure lazyness sometimes gets in the way.

Arborvitae is a form of cedar. I think it is called white cedar by some people. I have not used it to paint but know Cedar can be oily so yes I would recommend sealing.

As Scott said, it is in the Cedar family.
