  • wooden bases

I'm looking for finished wood bases of various sizes and shapes that I can use when I don't have time to make my own. I know there's a place back EAST because I talked to a carver recently who mentioned it, but he couldn't remember the name or place. I haven't seen any advertised in Chip Chats or anywhere else.

Any help? Sure would appreciate the info.

    Re: wooden bases

Donna, two places I have seen bases are in my Little Shavers and MDI catalogs. MDI has the biggest selection, finished and unfinished and different shapes. I don't know if they have any shown on their website, the address is if you want to check it out or order their catalog if you don't get it.
Rick at Little Shavers, address [email protected] would be a good person to check with too. I only see a couple round and oval bases in their catalog but he's good at helping you find what you're looking for. Let us know how you make out, I for one will be most interested, a few of the carvings I have drawn up for this year will require bases and not making my own would be a real time saver. Good luck! Donna T,

      I have purchased bases from:

      Blue Ribbon Bases
      100K Knickerbocker Ave
      Bohemia, N.Y. 11716

      Good people to work with.

      Good Luck

you might also look in any local craft store, most of them have sections of wood products which while not specifically meant as a base could easily be used for such. just a thought.

          Woody, Callynne, and Dave E,
Thanks for the advice guys. I'll check them out over the weekend when I have more time.

Making bases reminds me of a sign I saw once at a craft show. 'Sure you could make it yourself for less $, but WILL you.' Sometimes time is harder to come by to make bases than just giving in and buying some that are already cutout, sanded, and finished--ready to use!

I'll let you know what I find out. If anyone else knows of other suppliers, let us know.

          Donna T

We will have an air show again this year in Knoxville Sept. 10-11 and the Blue Angels are suppose to be here performing, They were here a few years back. We live close to the airport so they flew over are home practicing the few days before the show, and then the show it’s self. Quite a sight for...

Oh what a treat. Years ago we went to Air Shows in Oshkosh, WI. Greatest memory was the Concorde.

Not quite. The idiots in Maryland are keeping the kids in school until June 21. A lot of schools don’t have a/c so they will send them home early. The blue angels are here every year for graduation. In September there is something at the inner harbor and the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds and another group...
