  • Feet meet ice....

Need I say more? I was leaving the house last Thursday, stepped off the step and next thing I knew I was looking into my son's brown eyes asking if I was alright. Thinking I shouldn't be looking at the sky and eaves under the house I decided I wasn't. Seems there was ice on the walk and I fell backwards hitting my head on the concrete porch. Only thing that saved me, so to speak, is the hood of my coat came up some and it made a pillow for my head when I hit. Kevin was looking out the window at the time and came right out so I wasn't laying there too long. After I decided there wasn't anything broken, he lifted me up and got me into the house. He wanted to take me to the hospital but being the stubborn polish/irish combination that I am, I didn't go. Needless to say I had a monster of a headache so I didn't do anything over the week-end. I am fine now and will be getting back to my saw today. Just everyone BE CAREFUL! You might not have someone around like I did and lay there for a long time if you fall and hurt yourself. And don't go sleigh riding. There are so many people getting seriously hurt and killed sleigh riding they are telling people down here not to go. One man was riding in a large open field with one tree in it. He struck the tree and died instantly. So I was quite lucky.

Betty, I can sympathize with you, I was a mail carrier for 32 years and took many spills on slippery sidewalks. They always told us to relax when you fall, Ya Right. Glad nothing is broken.

Did it here too - was just opening the trunk of the car when my feet disappeared from under me - nothing hurt but my dignity though - and feeling extra stupid cos I'd just told Sue to be careful cos it was slippery - duh!

I'm getting bored with snow and ice now ...

Your message comes in a timely fashion for Sue and I here. Since our roofs are covered in snow and have drifts over the eves, mother nature decided today to make it rain for the next 3 days. So, it looks like a very good time for me to stay home - atleast till all the sanders and salters have done their jobs on our roads and sidewalks.

Good to hear you have recovered and the fall wasn't as bad as it could have been.

          Take care
          Toni

sorry to hear this betty, my wife annie did the same thing couple of weeks ago, came to pick me up from work, walked around waiting and slipped on ice and banged her head on the floor. She had a terrific headache for a couple of days but refused to go to the hospital. Hope all goes well for you.

Ouch! Glad to hear it's nothing serious.
Mick, funny you mention mail cariiers, I always make sure to clean and salt the sidewalk and driveway, but the mail carrier walks through the yard...go figure.

I spent 10 years as an icemaker in an arena, I have the greatest respect for ice, specially when it is wet. If I had a dollar for everytime I hit the deck I would be rich.
The worse one was when I was cleaning the glass on the inside of the rink with a cordless buffer on a step ladder.
Now if that is not an accident waiting to happen I do not know what is.

I am glad to hear you are doing ok Betty. That is something I do not wish on anyone.
