Just a little while ago I was scrolling thru FB and there were a BUNCH of folks saying how they appreciated their spouse and how many years they have been married.
YIKES!!!! Our wedding anniversary is this month!!!
I went to the living room and gave my wonderful wife a kiss and said, "happy anniversary".
She said, "It's the 14th".
"Oh, well I'm not late huh", was my reply.

Cripes, that could have gone so wrong.

Actually, In Japan where my wife is from, wedding anniversarys aren't celebrated like here. We have missed it so many times. When the kids were small we would have a "family birthday" in June to celebrate the beginning of our family. My way of remembering.
We forgot our birthdays a lot of times too. Not a big deal when you are trying to provide for the kids and pay the bills. We, like a lot of folks, had some real lean years in the 80s. Carternomics.

42 years here. I remember each time but get this. As a naive young person, for our first anniversary, I thought this is OUR anniversary, so I should get US a gift for OUR new apartment. Soooooo, I went out and bought US a gift for the apartment. Fast forward to that night when my mom called to wish us well, so says to my DW, "What did Stephen get you?" Wife broke down crying saying: "a vacuum!"

I learned this was wrong, and have never repeated the error, though I don't honestly understand what was wrong with my logic.

My wife is the one who can't remember the date. When I tell her and how many years, the response is always the same,"seems longer than that". I think she is telling me something.
