  • Crooked Walking stick blues

A friend of mine asked me to make him a walking stick.
He is rather large and wanted it 41 inches to the handle.
I have a collection (from my various hikes in the woods)
I found one, sanded it, oiled it, showed it to him...
    He said it was crooked!
Well low and behold it was! It still worked. I said it was unique, Nothing in nature is even, so an indian taught me.
he said he would not be happy with it to and him find another...
Oh well, I cannot please everyone!
    Back to the woods!

I think a crook in a walking stick adds a rustic character to it. I made some for my grandkids and they loved em. Like you said it also makes them unique. Most folks think unique is kind of cool. Just sayin.

Find a long handled shop broom and give it to him. Straight, no character and useful. He can use the handle to walk and the broom head to sweep. Tell him it was from your special stash.

I have a suggestion as to what he could do with your generously given gift, but I'd probably get banned from the forum for life.

I was using one of my sticks to help with balance issues. A lady wanted one so I made it for her. Never heard from her again. I hope she is OK.

.... custom steamed to match the bow in his leg??? .....

.... one tough thing about hand crafted anything - it's desirability is very much an individual thing .... and I guess that means that even something as simple as a cane is just as personal a choice as anything else.

.... I'm sure it'll eventually find an appreciative owner somewhere!

I agree with Carole as well....we shall be ostracized together.

BTW You can send me the walking stick with the crook in it I'd dearly love having it.

You could build a cane for him like one of these:
