Well Manning finally got one monkey off his back. Frankly I agreed with the CW that Manning and the Colts weren't tough enough to win a championship, but they have proven that statement false with their play the past few weeks. I give them credit. Chicago better bring their A game.

Since Seattle opted for a quick exit a few weeks ago I have officially boycotted watching any more football.

Heck I forgot Chicago even had a team!

Well, I'm puttin my money on the Bears. I think the Colt's win was a fluke.
Hubbies betting on Colts, so it should be an interesting game.

I've been a Bears fan since '85...I knew they had it in them this year...if Grossman plays instead of thinking about new years...<GRIN>

I'm neither a Bears or Colts fan, but the way the Colts snuck out of Baltimore in the middle of the night about 10 years ago, I hope they get BURIED!!

The Packer's beat the Bears the last time they met.

Mick...I used to live in a little town just down the road from you called Winthrop Harbor Il. I was a Packer fan for years!!! Never much cared for dem Bears!! LOL!!! I shot a lot of pool in a little bar up near Fox River Park and they had tons of Packer's memorabalia (?) in that place.

I was hoping this was a thread about someone carving or turning a huge salad bowl or something.

I guess I'll cheer for the Colts, because I like indianapolis and the Bob & Tom show. Is the superbowl in Detroit this year? I hope so...maybe the Lions can sit front row and learn how to play.

                            For our friends overseas:

This thread is about American styled Football. There is a BIG championship game coming up.

The last time the Chicago team was in the Super Bowl, they had a team mate who went by the nick name of the "refrigerator", mainly because his size was that of most people's kitchen. The 'frige', I think is one of the few 'defensive line-men' to score a touchdown on an 'offensive' line up back in the 1980's. IIRC, the 'frige' even scored a touchdown in the Super bowl.

The Indianapolis Colts team at one time were the Baltimore, Maryland Colts. They were in the third or forth Super bowl against the New York Jets Team and lost. The Jets win was the first time a team from that Football league to win against the other Football league. The people who ran the gambling rings make HUGE profits on that game the Colts lost.

In the 1984, 23 years ago, for many reasons, mostly $$$$, the team was re-located from the east coast city of Baltimore to a somewhat smaller city of Indianapolis, Indiana. Indianapolis is about 3 hour drive away from Chicago. Although several other teams have re-located to other cities, but none of the other moves have left such an angry mob of former fans. Note: Baltimore is a 1 hour drive north of Washington DC (Redskins team) and 1 hour south of Philadelphia (Eagles Team).

The Super bowl is mostly noted for the fact that the TV commercials which are broadcasted with the game are very expensive to the advertisers to buy time for. And the advertisers mostly air brand new 'TV spots' which cost a lot of money to produce. Quite a few people watch the game as much for the TV commercials as for the game itself.

And the famous 'wardrobe malfunction' of Ms Jackson's costume occurred during the half time show of the February 1, 2004 Super bowl. The Middle of the game is halted for an extended period of time, mostly during regular games, so the fans in the stadium can relieve themselves from the all the beer they have been drinking. Some sort of entertainment is offered on the field for those who stay in their seats. In Ms Jackson's case, I personally was checking on my diner in the kitchen and missed it.

I offer these tid-bits of information to our overseas friends because Gill was kind enough to attempt to explain 'Cricket' to us Yanks. Thus this long post is really Gill's fault.

Phil that is some great background info there, does any one else remember the Icky Shuffle, he was a Bear wasn't he?

I have already stated that since the Seattle Seahawks left the playoff scene I would boycott football, it isn't the reality of things, if I have to choose a winner I say go Bears, Indy left me hanging too many times and I was forced to watch another New England Super Bowl, geez I really can't stand that team.
