  • A quick update...

Just a quick note. I had to leave my computer glasses at the optometrists to get new lenses as i didn't want to pay for new frames too. So I won't be on the computer very much for the next possibly 2 weeks. Trying to read the screen with my bi-focals is a real pain in the neck. My dollar store readers do not correct for astigmatism so I'll just have to lay low for a while. Now you know the rest of the story.

You can ask him/her for loaner frames, my guy does that for me, he just snaps my old lenses into his loaner frames till the new glasses are ready. Unless you really don't want to give us any attention at all for 2 + weeks............

I asked if they had some loaner frames and they said nope sorry. I'll check in from time to time, but these bi-focals are driving me buggy trying to read the screen with my head tilted backwards...LOL

Bubba don't hold back on my account...lots of good folks here love your patterns....

MIke, I use variable focus lenses made by Zeiss (greater peripheral vision) but they are also made by Varilux. They are not cheap but allow me to have only one pair of glasses for reading, scrollling, computer work and driving, and they also correct my astigmatism. The only drawback is that in bright sun I need to wear a hat or somehow shade my eyes because they tend to magnify the brightness.

I have a pair from the dollar store. I get a headache after a few minutes of wearing them at the computer but at least I'm not going through withdrawals....

I was using bifocals. This time I went with mono vision. One lens corrected for reading and one for far distance. It was really hard to get used to for a couple of weeks, but now I can read or drive without tilting or changing glasses.

I used to tilt my head back too with my bifocals. Now I have a particular pair that I wear when I'm at the computer. It basically enlarges everything for me. But when I don't have them around I have to hold my glasses up off my nose so I can read thru the bottom part of my glasses

Hmm.. when I get just new lenses my eye dr orders them and I drive back in when they are delivered to the office and wait for them to put them in my frames. Have never left my glasses there for them. But that's just me....

Oh, poor Mike! I have the same problem with the, literally, pain in the neck! I have to have a separate "computer/reading/scroll saw" pair of glasses.

Years and years ago I had my only pair of contact lenses which were mono-vision -- you really can get used to seeing out of one eye and reading out of the other. I didn't know you could do that with regular lenses, so I'll have to look into that, as changing glasses ALL the time gets to be a real drag.

As for sunlight, there's a company called COCOONS that makes sunglasses that you just slip on over your prescription lenses -- they're regular sunglasses, not clip-ons, and MUCH cheaper than prescription sunglasses. My doctor has convinced me to wear sunglasses outside, so these are real eye-savers!

Mike, I hope you're not going TOO crazy without your glasses - hang in there!
