  • How do I cut this?

    Scrollers,
I bought a stall mat to use as an anti-fatigue mat to stand on in the shop, but I need to cut it into sections. It's a pretty heavy 3/4" thick piece of rubber. Anyone have an idea what the best way to cut it would be?

I'd probably try a sharp utility knife first. Might take a few passes to get through the thickness, but it should work. Also use a straight edge to keep the cuts straight.
Don't worry about old age--It doesn't last that long

Bruce don't know if we are talking about the same kind of mat, but I cut mine

I think I used my skill saw or hand jig saw. I bought mine over 10 years ago.

Bruce I have the same stuff in my shop. I cut it with a sheet rock knife with a new blade. You will need to make a couple passes. Make sure to use a metal straight edge.

Being 3/4 inch thick, I would say you will need a very sharp, sturdy blade knife, like everyone suggested. Be careful too. Good Luck

And. . . . don't forget to start with a six pack of some cold beer!

i have cut a lot of these for horse stalls. i used a utility knife or a linolium knife (curved blade).after first cut i slid a two by four under mat so the cut was over the edge this opened uup the cut and made it easier to cut through . i have tryed saws etc and this worked best for me.

Thanx, all, for your (almost) unanimous direction. I picked up some new blades for my utility knife today. I liked Joe's idea of using the 2x4 to open up the cut. Hopefully that will make it a little easier for these arthritic hands.

BTW, Theresa, these mats are 4'x6'and are heavier than I can lift by myself.

to lift and move around i used 2 c clamps 6in ones at least large enough to provide hand holds clamp them on the edge makes them a lot easier to move
