It's a generous offer Bob. Not to throw a wrench into the situation, but when selling on ebay for things like this, there are some guidelines Ebay requires - here's a link that can better explain: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/nonprofit.html

Last year we auctioned off a friendship cane for the Hurricane Katrina victims...so we used Mission fish, etc. So we worked that out already.

not to put a downer on your idea. It was a terrible situation, and I can't imagine living through that. You guys/gals have big hearts, but it is a little bit dis-respectful to donate money to the Amish. The Amish people are very proud and do not take hand-outs regardless of why they are happening. If you give them money, they will give it back or they will give it away to something else that has nothing to do with their own community. I have Amish people in my family and know how they are. I also have two daughters and can sure feel their pain. I know that they do not appreciate the media attention and they don't appreciate the outsiders trying to attend their funerals. The best gift would be to light a candle and stay out of their business.
Wood magazine is doing a children's hospital auction. I am sending a huge intarsia to them, and perhaps this would be a better idea for anyone else interested in helping children.

Actually, there are several funds set up...the one we are donating to is the Mennonite Central Committee (who is our company's charity of choice anyway)

            http://www.mds.mennonite.net/

Not only is the MCC providing funds to the families and schools (in a manner that they accept) but they are also coordinating rides for the families to the hospitals.

Some Scrollers who frequent the carving board asked me to keep them informed...
