  • What I did today

I went over to a friends house today to play in his work shop and give him some encouragement and praise on his new scroll saw. Well before all was said and done, he had me playing on his ShopSmith with lots of fun attatchments Now mind you I haven't turned anything on a lathe since High School, he stood by my side and walked me thru the making of this rose in a vase! I still can't believe it!

I turned the vase on the lathe, and made the rose with the bandsaw. No scrollsaw envolved.....

I still have to put the finish on it, but I'm real happy with it.

I did give him some tips on the scrollsaw, although I don't think he needed it!

Is there a lathe in my future? HMMMM? Oh,Honey.......

OH YEAH!!!! The abyss scores another one. Once you get that lathe, be warned.........you'll spend more time and money feeding that puppy than if you'd got hooked on crack.........

        NICE VASE and flower!!!!!

            Bill-

That's real nice. I haven't done any turning since High School either, but a lathe sounds like loads of fun. How did you get the tight turns on the bandsaw?

              That's KOOL. Bill;
Very nice spindle turning. Apart from turning more than 100 pens I have not done much spindle turning yet. I may need to get some lessons from you. It is obvious that you are comfortable with a skew and that has been the hardest of the many lathe tools for me to master so far.
I am mostly into smooth profiled hollow form vases and bowls and segmented wall clocks and things of that nature. I just turned 6 bowls yesterday out of that stash of free walnut logs I got the day before.
There sure are hundreds of different neat projects that can be made on a wood lathe.
Nice to see you that you are a multi talented woodworker.

                  Great job. Thanks for sharing.

I really admire folks that can turn things on a lathe. It's definitely a talent.

Boy an I glad the forum is up and running this morning! After trying to get on several times last night and finding I couldn't I went thru a moment of SSW&C board withdrawl and separation attacks!!

Pete, yes the leaves are glued on, I will try to post some better pictures tonight for you to view.

I think the lathe is just going to have to wait for now, besides it's a good excuse to go over and visit my buddy for awhile. Another reason is I don't think with my scroll saw addiction I could afford another monkey so to speak on my back. Barry, your comment spoke volumes to me!

Thanks everybody for looking and commenting, it was a fun new experience!

Pete I'll get those pics up tonight for you.

Big time withdrawls were felt here too -- funny tho - after things were back on and running I finally could go to bed and get some sleep -- But only till I know the fox was alive and kicking..

So many are selling them here it’s not worth us making them. However, we do very well with our dough boards. Nobody else makes them. We have an order for a dough board and matching pepper grinder. The walnut board I could make into a beautiful basket or two and sell for lots more than they are getting...

I did forget to mention he cut a finger on his left hand with the bandsaw. Just took skin off. Lucky again. Told him he was calling 911 next time.

Jim, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, on the left you’ll find some style options that change the font size and color. I’ve been using Defalt vB5 Style, and it seems to be about the best for my iPad, but I’m still experimenting with my iMac.
